Operation Veterans Outreach, Revamped!

Soldiers' Angels is thrilled to announce a revamping of Operation Veterans Outreach to more-directly connect veterans who need assistance with the people who want to help them.
Propriety Operation Outreach software on the new site allows applicants in need to post pictures and background about their military service as they request donations of time, money, services or materials.  Patriotic Americans then browse a list of current needs or sign up to be notified of future postings based on keywords, type of need and location of the recipient.
"It's like Craig's List for America's Veterans," says Soldiers' Angels Chief Program Officer Lance Dowd.  "The real power of this new site is its ability to galvanize the community surrounding a veteran to become personally involved in supporting that veteran.  We're continuing to enable all Americans to make a measurable difference in the lives of our nation's military men and women, which is the unique power of Soldiers' Angels."
To be eligible for assistance through Operation Veterans Outreach, applicants must be a transitioning/wounded or honorably discharged (Honorable or General Discharge status) member of any branch of the US Military, including National Guard, Reserves and Coast Guard.  Eligibility is also extended to the immediate family of those killed in action.
Click here to create an Operation Veterans Outreach supporter or applicant account!  You can also make a general donation without signing up.

Valentine's Day for Our Troops...

“Put a Little Love in Your Heart” was not just a top hit on the music charts in the late 1960s, it is what volunteers did this Valentine’s Day for our troops!  Through the “Hearts for Heroes & Letters of Love” project done by the Angels of Virginia, over 300 Valentines were sent to our deployed troops in Afghanistan. Some were sent to 2 different groups of Army Soldiers who the Angels of Virginia have cared for since Thanksgiving and the others were sent to a unit of Army Soldiers stationed out of our great state of Virginia and who are now overseas. With the help of URS Corporation employees based out of Germantown, Maryland, this project was made possible. The graphics design team of this international engineering/construction company printed up many amazing cards while other Valentines were handmade – all having personally written notes of love & thanks on them. With some of the employees being veterans, these cards were even more special to them to make. Each card had a heart lollipop attached to give our troops a “sweet” taste of home. Many thanks to Laura G. who headed up this project with URS Corporation, and to all her colleagues, THANK YOU!

Cards from URS Corporation
For the rest of the Valentines, many thanks go to Shelly F. who’s daycare/preschool in Manassas, Virginia made “Hearts for Heroes” with the most adorable messages to our troops from the kids, including “We Win!” written on one of them. Shelly said all the children really enjoyed making the Valentines which will surely bring a smile to the faces of our deployed service members. Allyson C. and her moms’ group, along with their children, all made “Hearts for Heroes,” as well. From the Hot Stuff flames to the Puppy Love sentiments, the handmade hearts will most definitely show our troops that they are loved back home. Thanks, also, to Angel Heidi and those at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Rescue Department for all the Valentines they filled out and sent overseas. In addition, Kathi M. filled out many “Avengers” Valentines which will surely bring joy and hopefully “super power” energy to our troops to help get them through their deployment.

Many, many, many thanks to all those above who helped. Without you, the “Hearts for Heroes & Letters of Love” project would not have been possible. By you putting a little love in your heart, you were all able to put some into those of our brave men and women fighting to protect us. Being able to remind them that they are NEVER forgotten by us back home and are always remembered, is a gift all in itself. These cards will surely show our deployed troops that America still cares and always will. Thank you & may God bless you all for having such kind and loving hearts.

THANK YOU - From the Front Lines!!

"We loved all our valentines gifts... Thank you so much for all you do... From all of us at 359th Inland Cargo Transfer Company." (From the Unit from Virginia who we sent Valentines to!)

Be sure to check out photos from this Valentine's Day on our Soldiers Angels Virginia Facebook page!!

THANK YOU...

The Dynamic Duo!

The grocery store Wegmans in Leesburg, Virginia, and the Soldiers' Angels of Virginia did it again - sending more than 90 Lrg. APO boxes overseas to our deployed troops. Managers Andy and Eddie of Wegmans got together all the left over holiday candy the store had and donated it to Soldiers’ Angels so local Angels could send it all to their adopted troops through Individual Adoptions and Groups Adoptions.  Our forever amazing Angels, Sandy and Cindy, picked up all the candy, completely filling their cars. Their neighbor and Air Force Veteran, Donna, was kind enough to store the hundreds and hundreds of pounds of candy in her dinning while the three ladies worked tirelessly to pack everything up. While man (woman) power didn't seem to be a problem for these spirited ladies, money for shipping overseas was something that had to be addressed.  Putting their minds together, they decided to post on Facebook and ask family and friends to donate money to help with the cause. Within hours, the money started flowing in! During the first weekend, over 50 boxes were sent out to our deployed troops. While Sandy, Cindy and Donna were at the post office waiting in line, a very kind soul donated $100 after hearing what the Angels were doing. It's truly amazing to see people come together to help out those who deserve it the most - our troops. As the pledges to send shipping money continued, over 40 more boxes were sent out. The workers at the Post Office off Prentice Dr. in Dulles, Virginia, all stayed after the PO closed to help get the boxes mail. Their dedication to their work and to serve others was certainly shown and is greatly appreciated.

You think that's all?! Not even close! Right after everything was packaged and shipped, Wegmans notified the Angels of Virginia that they had 60 cases of Oreos to donate. Now, the process gladly starts all over again! Without the help of Sandy, Cindy, Donna and all those who donated money to help, NONE of this would have been possible. Many, many thanks  to them and to Managers Andy and Eddie at Wegmans for always thinking of our troops and supplying Soldiers' Angels with the goods to send overseas. It is truly amazing to see people work together - giving of themselves - to help those who deserve if most and give of themselves day in and day out. Hopefully these treats will bring smiles to our troops and help them get through one more day of their deployment. Something as simple as a reminder that we back home care and appreciate them, can make a world of a difference to our brave men and women fighting overseas.

Hearts for Heroes & Letters of Love...

Greetings All!
After a busy season of sending Christmas cheer to our deployed, we are now on to our new mission: sending TONS of LOVE to our troops for Valentine's Day :)
Soldiers’ Angels' volunteers in Virginia are working on projects called "Hearts for Heroes" and "Letters of Love." Not only are these fun for ALL to do, but they're also, GREAT projects for our school children and young adults to do! They can make hearts/Valentine's, decorate them, and sign them and write letters, and we will send them overseas to our troops currently deployed.
Soldiers say that their favorite gifts are from the kids. They love the notes and the artwork. Nothing more precious than giving someone love expressed through the eyes of our innocent.
We will be sending the hearts/Valentine's and letters overseas on February 1st.
If you could be finished and have them to me by Monday, January 28th, that would be great.
Thanks, everyone!! Look forward to hearing from any and all who'd like to help our and participate :)
